Sarampa Percusion (ISI Surakarta)

Sarampa Percusion is an ethnic music group under Institut Seni Indonesia (Arts Institute of Indonesia) Surakarta -  ISI Surakarta was established on 15 July 1964 under the name of Karawitan Arts Academy of Indonesia (ASKI). ASKI was established with the consideration that Surakarta, which has a vastly recognized traditional arts background, needs an institute that can accommodate the teachings of traditional arts in order to preserve and develop the identity of the artsy city. By the efforts of a group of young artists who were supported by cultural experts, this institute was established. In 1988, the status of ASKI was raised and changed name into Indonesia High School of Arts (STSI). The status of STSI was then raised again in 2006, changing its name into the Arts Institute of Indonesia (ISI). Now, ISI Surakarta has two faculties; the Faculty of Performing Arts and the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.
